The Soehnle Model Scale

Praised by Christopher Kimball and his crew of test kitchen bakers and cooks at the prestigious CooksIllustrated.com, the Soehnle Model 65055 Scale is not only incredibly efficient at the task of weighing with precision, it is user-friendly and beautiful as well.  With all this, the most amazing thing about this kitchen tool is its price--just $ 39.99 with $9.50 shipping.

Finally, a very precise, easy to use, great-looking scale. The differences in the amounts of flour that get into a measuring cup can vary widely, depending on whether you dip and sweep or fluff and scoop.  And bakers know that the amount of flour used can mean the difference between a light, airy, crusty bread or a dense heavy brick.

The Soehnle Model 65055, with a capacity of 9 pounds 15 ounces is up to the task for anything a baker or cook (or dieter--for portion control) can ask of it.  The tare feature makes this scale especially easy to use. Put your empty bowl, measuring cup, or plate on the scale, press the tare button and the readout goes back to zero. Then just add flour until you have the amount you need for your recipe.  You can then press the tare  button again, go back to zero, and weigh the next ingredient, right there in the same container.   It doesn't get any more accurate...or any easier...than this.

The stainless-colored finish makes it easy to clean, the buttons have a good solid feel and the glass weighing shelf is nice and thick.  Another feature I really like is that if you like to use the pounds and ounces measurements, you only have to select it once.  The scale remembers what you used the previous time and brings up the display in the same unit of measurement.  I have found this feature only on scales costing way more than the Soehnle Model 65055.
